Winderbourne Mansion is a Victorian home built in 1884 for Enoch and Mary Totten.
Enoch Totten was also a Civil War veteran and Washington lawyer. Mary Totten was extremely wealthy and her father was Timothy Howe, a senator from Wisconsin.
Mary provided the capital to build this mansion. Mary's father was the brother of Elias Howe, who improved the sewing machine and was the sole heir to his great fortune. Elias Howe invented the Bobbin-Winder that gave the house its name. -
Winderbourne House is painted pink. These colors combine with the environment in which the house is located and give it a strange and solemn look
The Tottens loved gardening and devoted their garden space to exotic plants imported from various countries around the world. Moreover, there were gardeners to maintain them.
According to many local residents, this house is now haunted. There are various reasons why people think this way. The most special thing is the tragedies that happened in this house. Totten's three children all have fevers. One of these three died.
One of Totten's daughters raised a child out of wedlock. That little girl loved Winderbourne House. She happily ran through the great halls, exploring every nook and cranny. One of her favorite activities was sliding down the grand staircase leading to the foyer. One unfortunate day she slipped and fell to her death

Not long after, John Hopkins also died unexpectedly, as did Edith Totten at the age of 48.
There are many contradictory parts to this story. Anyway, the person who was at home has gone with the hope of coming back. According to news, there are dishes in the sink and even an open book on the table.
Edward and Beulah Pickrell took ownership of the home in 1929. His son Edward Pickrell Jr. owned the house and lived there until his death in 2004. His brother Paxton Pickrell has been trying to sell the dilapidated house for years.

Today you can see two cars in the yard, clothes, and books inside the house. It is being destroyed. This home has been priced to sell. Not only that, this house is also included in the list of historical places.
Moving beyond the grounds of the mansion, the estate is close to the beautiful Black Hills Regional Park. However, visitors may see 'No Trespassing' signs as a word of warning. It appears as a reminder that the mansion remains a private property to be respected for its historical and current significance. It shows that the owners clearly want to protect the mansion from unwanted interference. But their absence is surprising. Perhaps they were keeping an eye on the mansion.

This house actually looks like a scene from a horror movie deep in the Maryland woods.
However, now the owners of this house have banned trespassing. So you have to enjoy these beautiful creations from a distance. So, in another article, I will come to you about another abandoned but beautiful place that stands proudly with its feet on the past. If you get a chance, go and see.
