Winderbourne Mansion is a Victorian home built in 1884 for Enoch and Mary Totten.

Enoch Totten was also a Civil War veteran and Washington lawyer.  Mary Totten was extremely wealthy and her father was Timothy Howe, a senator from Wisconsin.

Mary provided the capital to build this mansion.  Mary's father was the brother of Elias Howe, who improved the sewing machine and was the sole heir to his great fortune. Elias Howe invented the Bobbin-Winder that gave the house its name.
